About

Bob, along with his wife Alice, has been the director of Kingswood since 1985. From 1969-1988, Bob taught middle school history at Landon School for boys in Bethesda, Maryland. He also coached baseball and soccer over that span of years.
Bob says:
“I ‘retired’ from Landon in 1988, enabling me to spend all my time on Kingswood. With all that fabulous help I get at camp, especially from family members, I can spend my days roaming about the grounds, observing boys, and getting to know every one of them personally. I never tire of Kingswood issues, so feel free to contact me at any time with your questions. I’ll have an answer!”

Before moving to Lyme, New Hampshire, to work at camp full-time, Rob taught 4th grade at The Hill School in Middleburg, VA for sixteen years.  Rob and his wife, Becky, moved to New Hampshire to take an active role in camp year-round. Rob is able to visit camp frequently to oversee projects, and Becky has a short commute to her teaching job in Hanover.

  1. I am Sam, Charlie or Chuck (or whatever he is calling himself this summer) and Pete Cain’s Grammy Patti. The boys first came to Camp Kingwood last summer and have returned again this summer. Last year Sam could not stop smiling when referring to Kingswood. Peter was so proud of his accomplishment of matering flexability and Charile, Chuck or Chet just exuded enthusiam about his experience. I have followed the pictures by your daughter (which are fabulous) and see the boys are, once again, growing and glowing from their experience. I am a forever thankful grammy. Thank you for caring for all out boys and helping them to grow into what they will become. Patti Farmer, Colorado Springs, CO….(I think your AT hiker (Nolan?) is going to school here.)

    • Hi Patti: How sweet of you to take the time to say all of these very nice notes. Grammys always seem to see things in the proper perspective. We all love your grand-sons.

  2. Fred: Indeed you have good recall. Bob Smith just passed away late last winter at the ripe age of 95 or so. His daughter, Lynn Dennison, has a cottage on nearby Lake Armington and we see her every summer. Best wishes
